The Creation That Strengthened The Foundation
Our History
In the Fall of 1991, sixteen women came together at the Puerto Rican/Latin American Cultural Center at the University of Connecticut to learn more about Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc. Their passion for this beautiful sisterhood motivated them to start a chapter at UConn. Although the process of establishing a chapter in Connecticut was not easy and involved much dedication and hard work, they were determined to make their dream a reality. Because these women followed their hearts they soon became the founding sisters of Kappa Chapter and were successful in establishing the first chapter outside of New Jersey on January 12th, 1992; making Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc. a national organization. These sixteen lovely Lambda ladies paved the way for not only future sisters at Kappa chapter, but also other chapters nationally. Today, Kappa Chapter has initiated over a hundred sisters of all different races, ethnicities, and backgrounds. Referred to as "The Creation that Strengthened the Foundation", Kappa chapter will continue to have a strong presence at the University of Connecticut and remain committed to carrying out our principles of Unity, Love, and Respect through community service, educational programs, and sister socials. The following is a list of the sixteen founding sisters of Kappa chapter to whom we are eternally grateful.
